Fundamental Principles of the Anglican Church in Japan

The Anglican Church in Japan (Nihon Seikokai), in common with other members of the Anglican Communion, adheres to the following fundamental principles:

  1. We accept the Old and New Testaments as the revealed Word of God, sufficient for our salvation.
  2. We follow and proclaim the faith as set out in the Nicene Creed and the Apostles' Creed.
  3. In accordance with the doctrine and command of our Lord, Jesus Christ, we recognise and administer two sacraments: Baptism and the Lord's Supper (Holy Communion).
  4. In accordance with the practice established in apostolic times, we maintain three distinct roles for our clergy: bishops, 'priests' and deacons.
